My Opry Debut

My Opry Debut – Ruston Kelly / Tenille Townes

  • 2020
  • TV-G
  • S1 E8

Ruston’s reverence for the Carter Family and Johnny Cash are deeply rooted and not contrived. He reinterpreted The Carter Family’s “Bury Me Under The Weeping Willow Tree” and identifies with Cash because they “both took the same drugs”. And like Cash, the love of a good woman saved him (Ruston’s wife is singer Kacey Musgraves), and Ruston is now drug-free. His confessional record “Dying Star” tells it all. Joining him for his Opry Debut are his father (pedal steel) and his sister (background vocals) who share a musical connection, not unlike the Carter Family. Tenille Townes hails from Grande Prairie, Alberta Canada. She was only 17 when she was nominated for Female Artist of the Year by the Canadian Country Music Awards. Now 25, she just took home the CCMA Female Artist of the Year, Single of the Year, Video of the Year and Songwriter of the Year awards. Now she’s bringing half the town of Grande Prairie with her to Nashville as she prepares to make her Opry debut.
